1,5-Dihydroxytetralin is an intermediate in the synthesis of 7,8-Dihydro-1-naphthalenol (D451130). 7,8-Dihydro-1-naphthalenol can be used as reagent/reactant in stereoselective preparation of indanes via chiral hypervalent iodine - mediated ring contraction of dihydronaphthalenes.
