In recent years, an increased interest in oxadiazoles has emerged in drug discovery research, as well as in other areas of academia [1]. Oxadiazoles are five-membered heteroaromatic rings containing two carbons, two nitrogens, and one oxygen atom, and they exist in different regioisomeric forms[2]. Among the stable isomers, the 1,3,4- and the 1,2,4-isomers have received considerable attention, in particular, because of their inherent role as bioisosteres for carboxylic acid derivatives. Accordingly, the literature is rich in examples of 1,3,4-oxadiazole-containing structures displaying antimicrobial, anticonvulsant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antiviral activity etc.[1, 3-7].
